Tips for Hanging Family Photos

It can be difficult to figure out how to hang your pictures correctly, whether your decorating the living room or looking for decoration ideas for the study. If you are like most people, you do not have a natural eye for placement and decoration. Interior decorators are extremely talented, and most would be able to do this job in a few short minutes, but many times their services are too expensive.

Getting Prepared

Before you think about hanging your photos, you need to make sure that your wall is ready. Sometimes walls are weak and unstable. If you do not have a good surface for hanging your photos, heavy frames may fall, and this could cause problems. Once you have determined that the wall is going to do its job, you can move on with the project.

Before you do any hanging, you can do a test run. All that you have to do is clear the floor in front of the wall where you want to hang your photos. After doing this, get all of the photos together that you want to put in place, and put them face up on the floor. You can change them around as many times as you want to check the different lay outs.

If the family photos are from different time periods, you may want to put them in a logical order. You could put them in order by date. Some people prefer to put each member of the family in a specific spot on the wall. You can change up the layout as many times as you want while the photos are on the floor and it is not going to harm anything. Make sure that you pick one photo as the focal point and arrange the others around it.

Make sure that you do not place the larger photos on top of the smaller photos. If larger photos are put on top of the smaller photos, it could make things seem off balance. Having an off balanced wall is not what you want at all. You should also have the photos at eye level so that the people looking at the photos can easily see them.

Hanging the Photos

When you are ready to hang the photos, just flip the photos over on the floor. You want to see how each frame needs to be hung on the wall. You should then measure on the wall to see where each nail would need to go. If you have a wall that may chip, you can put some self sticking tape on the wall where the nail is going so that you do not have to worry about any chipping.

Whenever you hammer the nails, make sure that you do not over do it. You want to leave enough of the nail out so that you can safely hang your photo. Make sure that you use nails that are going to be strong enough to hold up the size of frame that you have put on your wall. If you do not use nails that are strong enough, you may end up getting a falling photo to the head.

These tips for hanging family photos should enable you to easily get the photos that you want onto the wall. There is no reason that you should have to struggle arranging and hanging photos. Use these simple methods to get the look that you want. Make sure that you take your time when you are doing your practice test on the floor. It is much easier to change things when they are on the floor than when the nails are already in the wall.
