You might have to really use some elbow grease to get the stain cleaned up enough, and depending on how bad the stain is, you might even have to repeat these first two steps a couple of times to get the stain up. Then you will want to get some warm water to rinse off the remaining cleaning solution.

Many people will just stop at those two steps, but it is important that you try to soak up the moisture that is left on the carpet with a dry towel. Carpets are usually built on top of what is called a carpet pad, and if you allow water to settle into the carpet pad you might end up with having mold set in. Therefore, you want to make sure that you soak up enough of the water to where it will air dry well before it soaks into the carpet pad. It will be hard for you to get all of the moisture up, but you will probably be able to get enough of it to suffice.
