Keeping Bugs Out of Your Home

If you have ever seen a home with a bug problem, you know it is not pleasant. Once you start having a problem with bugs, it is much more difficult to get them out and get rid of cobwebs that some bugs leave behind. The best thing to do is to keep the bugs out in the first place.

Not only are bugs annoying, but they can also cause serious problems in your home. Depending on the kind of bug, they may want to make a meal of your wood, food, or help damage other areas of the home. Some bugs are not necessarily harmful, but it is not pleasant to have the intruders in your home.

Preventing Bugs From Entering

When buying a new home, you probably think that you have nothing to worry about. You have had everything inspected, and it looks like things are good to go. While you may not be having problems with bugs right now, you could have problems with them sooner than you think if you do not take measures to prevent the bugs from entering your home.

Dryer vents are a great way for bugs to enter into your home. These vents usually go out through the wall, and they are considerably big. Just about any kind of bug that wants to come in, can get in through this hole. The best way to take care of this problem is by treating the area with bug repellent. Having a caged dryer vent will also help.

Your garage door is another golden path for bugs. Even the big ones may be able to get under your garage door. Treating that area of the floor with proper treatment is important. If the gap from the bottom of your garage door to the floor is large, you may want to consider replacing your garage door.

The attic will allow many pests to enter through the open spots. While you can try to seal up this area as best you can, if you turn off the lights, look around and see how many cracks are letting the light in. If you can see the cracks where the light comes in, the bugs can see them too.

If you have cable or anything else running into the house, you most likely have large gaps around the wires. This is a popular place for bugs to enter. Try getting some expandable foam to put around the wires or other things entering your house. Steel wool can work as well.

Removing Bugs Already Present

You may not know it, but your home could already have some bugs. If you have not had your home inspected recently, it is a good idea to find someone that can inspect your home and give you a clean report. You should check different stored goods that you have. Many times bugs like to live in stored good unnoticed. Just because you have noticed them until now, does not mean that they might not cause problems later. Checking things in your home to ensure that they do not have bugs is a must.

If you have a problem with a certain type of bug that does not seem to want to go away, you may need to speak with a professional about getting rid of your problem. If you allow bugs to take over your home, they may eat into your walls and cause structural damage. Some bugs are just annoying and cause you to have a weird feeling whenever you see them. Whatever reason you want to get rid of them, you should not have to deal with unwanted pests.
