Best Cleaning Products for Common Spills
No matter what type of flooring you have, you need to know the best way to get up spills. There are a lot of different products on the market but a lot of times we have things in our own homes that will allow us to get the results that we want without having to go out and spend a lot of money. Below are some simple solutions for cleaning up after children in your home.
Cleaning your carpet does not have to cause a big fuss. Many times we buy fancy vacuums, rent industrial carpet cleaning equipment or we hire professional carpet cleaners. If you find yourself doing any of those things then you may be going too far and overlooking some simple solutions.
If you have a minor juice stain you can use shaving cream to get it out. This may sound a little odd but shaving cream can actually be used to take out minor juice stains. Once you get up as much of the spill as possible you then apply the shaving cream. Use a damp sponge to clean the stain and repeat until the stain is removed.
Another common item that many people have around their homes is WD-40. This is usually used to lubricate squeaking doors but you can also use it for stain removal on your carpet. Simply spray the WD-40 on the stain and wait three to five minutes. After three to five minutes you can then get a sponge with warm water to blot the stain. Repeat this process until the stain is gone.
Borax is powerful when it comes to stain removal but you should know that it does not mesh well with all carpets. Before you try using this to remove your stain you should test a small section that is out of the way to see if there are any problems that you experience with this product. Just wet the area that has the stain with clean water, apply the borax and let the area dry. Once the area is dry you can use a vacuum cleaner to clean the area.
Cleaning Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood floors are considerably easy to take care of. You do not have to worry about juices or other spills staining these areas but that does not mean that you should not know how to properly clean your hardwood floor. If you do not keep it properly clean you may experience warping, dulling and scratches.
All spills should be wiped up as quickly as possible and you should reduce the amount of exposure to water to your hardwood. If you have hardwood near your sink you should put down a mat or rug to make sure that you keep as much water away as possible. Whenever you do this you are going to help make sure that you floor remains new looking.
If you have a spill or dirt or sand do not grind the floor with this spill. If there is no dampness you could be able to sweep it away but sometimes it is necessary that you get a damp cloth and blot up the sand or dirt. This could take a little more time than sweeping but you want to make sure that your floor is protected.
These simple tips can help your floor maintain its beauty. You do not have to use complicated products on your flooring. Some people do prefer to use in store products as the best cleaning products for common spills but these are some simple and helpful home tips.
